Parent Council Meeting

Our first Royal Oak School Parent Council meeting will take place on Monday November 8th at 7pm at the school. All parents of students at Royal Oak school are members of the council and we hope to see many of you at this meeting.

Agenda items will include:
  • Approval of Royal Oak School Council By-laws (please take a moment to review the proposed by-laws which are posted on a separate page)
  • Principal's Administration Report
  • Grade Team Report
  • Playground Committee Presentation
At the conclusion of the School Council meeting (approximately 8pm) there will be a meeting for the establishment of a Fundraising Society for Royal Oak School. Although School Councils and School Fundraising Societies work together they are separate committees. The following article from the Alberta Association of School Councils outlines the differences between the two.

Making the Distinction
School councils and fundraising societies provide two separate and distinct
contexts for parent and community involvement in the school. Identifying the
functions that fall under each group - school council or fundraising society - can
help make your existing organization more effective.

School councils provide a means for parents and community to work together
with administration, staff and high school students to promote the well-being and overall effectiveness of the school community. Its main role is advisory.

Fundraising societies provide a means for parents and community members to
provide additional financial resources and support to the school. Its main role is fundraising.
